Have you recently been in a car accident? Follow these 5 steps to document the accident and maximize your recovery:

PENNSYLVANIA WORKERS' COMPENSATION ATTORNEYS

1. Exchange Information. Get the names, numbers, addresses, drivers’ license numbers, license plate numbers, and insurance information from all drivers involved. If there are passengers or there were witnesses, obtain their names, numbers, and addresses. Police do not always investigate accidents in Pennsylvania anymore. Call and see if you can get an officer to issue a police report.

2. Take Photographs. Use your cell phone to photograph the damage to all vehicles involved in the accident. Take scene photographs too. If you have visible injuries, take photographs. It is important to document all evidence before it is removed and/or destroyed.

3. Consult with an Attorney. If anyone was injured in the accident, it is best to consult an experienced attorney. An attorney can help you maximize your recovery.  Our law firm works on a contingency fee basis, which means that we only receive a fee if and when you are awarded damages or receive a settlement. You pay no money up front.

If you are wondering whether you should hire an attorney, the answer is 100% Yes! Studies done by the Insurance Research Council (IRC) and All-Industry Research Advisory Council (ARAC) both show that insurance payouts are 350% higher with an attorney than without one.

4. Seek Medical Treatment ASAP.  If you are hurt, seek medical attention as soon as possible. Go to the hospital right from the scene of the accident if your injuries warrant. Studies show the longer you wait to report your injuries to a doctor or other medical provider the less your case will be worth.

5. Do Not Give a Statement. Do not give any statements to any insurance company or investigator after the accident without first hiring an attorney and having the attorney present. If called by the insurance company, politely tell them to contact your attorney or tell them you are in the process of seeking legal counsel and you do not wish to give a statement.
