OSHA Ensures the Right to Safe Workplaces for All

Your right to work in a safe environment is a right that is protected by the U.S. Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA). OSHA has a set of rights and guidelines that employers must adhere to; providing each and every worker in the United States with the safe environment they need in order to make a living. As workers’ compensation attorneys in Philadelphia, we understand how important enforcing these guidelines is as employee and even more so as an injured one.

Knowing Your Rights

You have the right to work in a safe environment that does not pose a risk of serious harm. To ensure that you have a safe and healthy workplace, OSHA protects employees around the country with the right to:

  • Request an OSHA inspection of their workplace
  • File a complaint or use rights under the law without retaliation or discrimination
  • Receive information and training about workplace hazards, guidance for how to prevent them. This training must be provided to you by your employer in a language you can understand.
  • Receive copies of test results done to locate hazards in the workplace
  • Review work-related illnesses and injury records for your employer
  • Obtain copies of their medical records after an on-the-job injury.

Filing a Complaint

When you see a safety issue arise in the workplace, immediately tell your supervisor. They are charged with telling the appropriate person in your company and ensure that the threat is addressed. However, if you feel that your complaint has gone unresolved, you may file one directly with OSHA. Filing a complaint online is likely to result in a more informal handling of your claim. Online complaints are typically reserved for less serious offenses, while the more serious complaints should be filed via form mailed directly to your regional OSHA office. You can find information about OSHA and their forms at

You have the right to a safe work environment, no matter what your occupation. If you have been injured on the job, you may be eligible for Pennsylvania workers’ compensation benefits. For a free consultation, call Mednick, Mezyk & Kredo today at 888-807-WORK (9675).
